Pantless in Seattle
Fri, 09/23/2005
A 20-year-old Shoreline resident was taken to Harborview for treatment after he spent part of the Wednesday morning commute practicing karate moves and dancing (pantless) in the lanes of the Spokane Street Bridge.
Shy at the first day of school, a 4-year-old would not tell classmates his name. His father, a 35-year-old local resident, became angry and took the child home. After a disturbing phone call, a relative picked up the child and took him to Swedish Hospital, where he was treated for fresh bruising on his legs, buttocks, both arms, neck, face, and left ribs-all the result of being hit with a belt. The dad was booked into King County Jail later that day, and was heard to say, "I was only doing the way I was raised."
A suspicious white male in his 40s gained entry to a locked Harbor Avenue condominium complex, seeming to target a boy who lives there. Twice he tried to get the boy to open the family's apartment door, but the boy refused. A fellow resident said she had recently received an odd phone call from a stranger inquiring if a boy, 14 or so, lived in the building. The woman hung up the phone without disclosing any information. The suspect is about 6 feet tall, blonde but balding, and has a light mustache and beard. He wore a white or soiled yellow T-shirt and black jeans, and drove a white, four-door car.
The gang unit is handling the case of a drive-by shooting in the 2500 block of SW Dakota. Shots from outside pierced a bedroom wall and struck a woman in the right chest and arm. She was transported to Harborview. Officers recovered multiple shell casings in front of the house.
After stopping for gas at 35th and Morgan, a man was approached by a stranger who asked for change. The stranger then pulled a small blue-steel semiautomatic pistol from his waistband, pointed it, and said, "Get in the car." The suspect and two friends climbed into the car as well, and, according to the victim, they "drove around all night smoking weed." The victim was dropped off at 120th and Roosevelt, where he was able to call 911. Officers were unable to find the suspects.
A convicted felon, wanted for drugs and weapon possession in an incident earlier this month, was spotted in the Junction area on Friday afternoon. Officers stopped the car, but after a few moments, the suspect drove northbound from the scene, accelerating to speeds great than 50 mph. After almost hitting two women and children, he crashed the car into a fence at Madison Middle School and jumped out with two passengers. Officers booked the driver into King County Jail for investigation of drug and firearms violations, malicious mischief, escape, and four counts of attempted vehicular assault.
A 24-year-old transient walked up to an officer in the parking lot at the Southwest Precinct and stated that he was AWOL from the Army and wanted to turn himself in. Military police were happy to come pick him up.
Alerted by a man who received a suicide threat from his wife, officers arrived at an Admiral home. They had the woman taken to Harborview for an evaluation and, per the husband's request, confiscated two .357 Magnum revolvers located in the residence.
In the 4500 block of 26th SW, citizens called 911 to report a man yelling and flailing his arms in the middle of the road. By the time medics arrived the man was lying in the street with a head injury. The victim, who is under supervision by the Department of Corrections, was transported to Harborview for treatment.
Eleven car prowls and seven domestic violence incidents were reported in greater West Seattle last week.
