On behalf of the city of Burien Arts Commission and the Discover Burien Association, it is my pleasure to thank all of the many people who made the Spring Stroll Art Walk so special on May 7.
This was the biggest art walk we have ever presented with over 50 businesses and craft booths, and over 60 artists on board. We were thrilled to have good weather and excellent sales throughout the day. Many thanks and congratulations to all who took part.
Once again, I am grateful to the Times/News for giving us great coverage. The feature article and all the various highlighted "spots" throughout the issue are much appreciated. Thanks for working with us every year to mail the inserted map to over 7,000 households.
Next, I want to thank our sponsors who contributed time, money and in-kind donations. You give us that extra boost so we can produce an enjoyable and high quality event.
This year we added some innovations to the walk. In the Seahurst area, we offered several hands-on art projects for children.
Many thanks go to the arts commissioners and members of the Burien Teen Council who volunteered their time and considerable efforts all day. Thanks, also, to volunteers and teachers from St. Francis School for offering an exhibition of works created by students in the schools art classes. This was a delightful addition to our children's art area and helped to create attention and interest and attract more visitors to the Seahurst merchants. I send kudos to all who helped in this endeavor.
Finally, I must thank the many volunteers from the Arts Commission, Discover Burien board, Clean Sweep crew, Parks Department and others who contributed their talents and services. I particularly want to acknowledge Barbara Reamer and Debra George, who always spend countless hours and energy to make this walk so vibrant, exciting and successful.
With two major art walks each year, Burien is growing and flourishing as a cultural center and one classy town!
