Editor's Note: The wrong letter from Rochelle Flynn was printed in the Sept. 28 issue of the Times/News. We are publishing the correct letter this week.
On behalf of the city of Burien Arts Commission and the Discover Burien Association, I would like to thank all of the people who helped with the Fall Art Walk on Saturday, September 10.
Over 45 businesses (including six new venues) and artists participated in the walk. Despite the unfortunate weather, many merchants and artists reported good business, especially in the last two hours of the day.
Thanks to the Times/News for the front-page coverage the week prior to the walk. The full-page color spread in the center section was a real eye-catcher.
Next, I want to thank our sponsors who contributed time, money and "in-kind" donations. This year we had several new sponsors and expanded opportunities for contribution.
Because of their generosity, we are able to present a more enjoyable, quality event.
I want to particularly thank the members of the Red Hat Society groups at the Burien Senior Center. Eight dedicated volunteers staffed the information booth and the Discover Burien offices, handing out maps and promotional materials all day long.
With their colorful attire and friendly demeanor, these ladies proved to be a delightful addition to the walk.
Much gratitude goes to those Arts Commissioners who braved the cold and rain to volunteer their time and talents at the children's "hands-on" art projects in the Seahurst area. "Ditto" to the numerous volunteers from the Arts Commission, Discover Burien board, Clean-Sweep crew, and other individuals who offered their services in a variety of tasks throughout the day.
Special thanks to the following:
Jim Hughes for the Sal's Deli anniversary celebration with bands and food vendors.
Chris Mark and The Mark restaurant for scrumptious food at the Friday evening reception.
Culture's King County Performance Network for the Theater Simple "Trailer Tales" project.
Geoff and the gang at Homescapes for their lovely decorations.
Gina Kallman and company from Moshier Art Center.
The members of the Art Walk Committee.
To all whose spirits couldn't be "dampened," I extend a big heartfelt THANK YOU!
Rochelle H. Flynn
