To the editor:
Because of WASL academic achievement results, Federal Way Public Schools was recently named as one of the top ten performing districts in the state by the Seattle Pacific University's education research center. This reflects credit on the School Board, school establishment, students, and parents.
The overriding priority of the School Board has been academic education. My many years of School Board observation leads me to the conclusion that the present Board is providing a leadership role not displayed by previous Boards. It is not merely "tending the store." The Board has implemented innovations in basic education, energized the superintendent and his staff and worked with the school establishment.
Incumbent School Board directors should be voted for as recognition of their service.
Mr. Ed Barney has four years experience on the Board and is knowledgeable of the changes essential to academic success. He brings to the Board experience, as a parent, working with the district on education. His background and performance exemplifies the type of person we need on our School Board.
Mr. Tom Madden, during his short term on the Board, has proven he can think outside the box and brings practical business experience to the Board. His prompt answer to shortage of funds and payment of athletic fee by student was to solve the problem. He is establishing a perpetual sports fund to assure that student will not be deprived of athletics due to lack of money for fees. District alumni are solicited for money as "payback" for athletics they enjoyed and benefited from as a student.
Mr. John C. Hoskinson
