Scare up some family friendly fun Saturday, Oct. 29, with haunted happenings from pumpkin carving to costume contests during Trick or Treat on Main Street, also known as Boo! in Burien.
From noon to 5 p.m., downtown businesses will hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. Shops will serve up hot drinks and store specials just for the event.
Boo! in Burien is sponsored by the Discover Burien Association, Prudential Northwest Realty Associates LLC and Good Clean Dog.
Trick-or-treaters age 12 and younger are invited to compete in the Kids Costume Contest at B-Town Scoop, 917 S.W. 152nd St. in Old Burien.
Youngsters will compete for best costume in two age categories: 8 through 12 and 7 and younger.
Prizes include all-you-can-eat ice cream at B-Town, a Bison Creek Pizza gift certificate and a Page 2 Book Exchange gift certificate.
Contestants may register at B-Town between noon and 3 p.m., with winners announced as soon as a Boo! in Burien dog parade ends at approximately 4 p.m.
B-Town also will offer free samples of spiced pumpkin ice cream.
Mick Kelly's Irish pub, 435 S.W. 152nd St., will host an Adult Costume Contest with prizes in the evening. For details, call Mick Kelly's at 206-246-2473.
For a delicious jolt of fright, visit the haunted house at Moss Chiropractic, 612 S.W. 152nd St.
From 3 to 5 p.m., several rooms at Moss Chiropractic will transform into a ghostly world through the efforts of Dr. Jonna Moss and her staff, family and patients.
A tradition for approximately 12 years, the haunted house changes each Halloween.
"The patients' kids love it," Moss said.
While there will be nothing gory, Moss notes the haunted house is not appropriate for children ages 5 and younger, including babies. A maze that is too tight for strollers and a room featuring a strobe light also will be featured.
Keep those goose bumps raised with spooky stories told by members of Burien Little Theatre at Burien Books, 643 S.W. 152nd St.
Or carve a pumpkin to take home and leave the mess at The Daily Perk Bakery & Cafe, 205 S.W. 152nd St., before catching a free hayride along 152nd.
At the other end of 152nd, do the Transylvania twist with other costumed characters to the hit song "Monster Mash" outside Three Wishes, 902 S.W. 152nd St., from 3 to 5 p.m.
