Last evening I so cherished driving wonderful California Avenue between Morgan and Alaska, praising all along the way that the evil monorail will never despoil the ample free roadside parking, the ample turnouts for bus, the essential left-hand turn lane and the trees. How massive pigeon-poop perches will never shadow Morgan or Alaskan junctions. How concrete support pylons will never exist to host the urban litter of commercial and political sales pitches.
That appreciation all inspired my to offer a clue to the clueless job seekers of the former Seattle Monorail Project. The superior transportation plan for West Seattle is the long-delayed lane expansion of the Spokane Street Viaduct and much needed double lane entry onto I-5 north and south. Those merge lanes are needed to relieve full length back-up of the Spokane Viaduct as well as for relief of north bound I-5 movement over to I-90.
It can be done. That is, unless the light rail tunnel portal has checkmated that improvement. And I wouldn't be surprised to learn that "transit" planners and their elected sponsors have conspired to prevent such improvements.
Those who spout "transit" more often than not are those who would destroy independent movement in our "freedom machines." In fact, the strongest pitch of this last pitiful campaign to save the monorail was predicated on the need of monorail after their same ilk destroyed our Alaskan Way Viaduct. These Luddites wouldn't even want to replace it. It would interfere with their Frisbees tossing.
Our final "Plan B" recommendation for Queen Laws and all dethroned Seattle Monorail Project royalty: take a hike!
