Seattle City Councilman Richard Conlin will lead the Council as president for the two year term, 2006 to 2007.
Conlin, who chaired the Council's Transportation Committee for the past four years, has four priorities for his term as president. He says he will build a strong Council that works together with clear goals and a clear agenda; that he will continue to enhance the Council's "tradition of open, transparent and responsive government;" he will strengthen the relationship between the city's legislative and executive branches; and will expand the regional role of the Council through building strong bridges to its suburban counterparts.
"I am very excited about this opportunity to work with my colleagues to serve the people of Seattle." Conlin said. "This is a seasoned and skilled Council. I am confident that we will continue to creatively and responsibly meet the challenges of Seattle's future."
