The King County Sheriff’s Office provided information on Dec. 13 to Burien residents about two level 3 registered sex offenders who have moved to the area.
The individuals are not wanted by law enforcement.
Douglas Schwartz, who resides in the 100 block of Southwest 154th Street, pleaded guilty to second-degree rape and second-degree assault in 1977 for picking up a female hitchhiker, then severely beating and raping her.
The other sex offender is Arne Stevens, now living in the 100 block of Southwest 160th Street.
He was convicted in 1988 for sexually assaulting five children, ages 1 to 7 years of age. Stevens was the live-in baby-sitter at the time.
He denied committing the crime and is an untreated sex offender.
Alleged car thief shot
A Des Moines police officer shot and injured a man Nov. 7 around 1:15 a.m. while the officer was checking out a stolen car.
The officer was following the stolen 1990 Acura Legend eastbound on South 216th Street from Pacific Highway. While waiting for backup, the suspects’ car turned down a dead-end street in the 21800 block of 35th Ave. S. and stopped.
When officers arrived they approached the car and the driver started backing up and accelerated, hitting an officer in the leg. Officers then started shooting at the car and hit the driver.
The suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center. The officer was only slightly injured.
