According to the Washington State Patrol, witnesses said the driver of the car drifted to the left out of the car-pool lane and hit a guardrail.
The car then went into a spin and struck the side of the minivan, troopers said.
Killed was Nichole Cook, 23, who was a passenger in the car. The driver and two others, including Cook’s 10-month-old daughter, Brielle, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Harborview Medical Center where they were listed in satisfactory condition.
None of the seven members of the California National Guard inside the minivan was seriously injured.
They had just finished training at Fort Lewis and were on their way home for Christmas before being deployed to Iraq.
Troopers reported that one solider had a broken collarbone and another had face cuts. They were treated at Madigan Army Hospital.
