Erin Dolan opened her shoe store in West Seattle because she and her husband live in the Admiral District.
"But West Seattle needed it too," she said of her new store, Edie's. The name reflects Dolan's initials.
"I didn't want it to be so much me," she said. "I wanted the shop to have its own identity and not a lot of extra attachments."
Edie's sells men's as well as women's shoes and carries Camper, Puma and Asics brands. The new store also sells less familiar shoe brands. There are also knitted purses and hats for sale.
Boutiques sell merchandise that runs "counter to department stores," Dolan said.
Her husband, Nick Rhinehart, is a blacksmith. He built the cashier's counter and the store's display pedestals along with woodworker Eric Rhinelander.
Dolan owns another Edie's on Capitol Hill.

Planning help for weddings, events
Some people want to figure out where each olive fork should be placed on every table at their wedding. They might need only an experienced hand to advise them occasionally.
Others want nothing to do with planning their wedding. They just need to know what time to show up at the church.
Renee Metty owns a business that helps people plan their wedding. Called It's Eventful, the small company can plan and carry off all of the details or it will step back and guide clients who want to participate in the planning of their wedding, Metty said.
It can help with etiquette, research, timelines, checklists, budgets and other aspects of an event.
The Morgan Junction business also plans corporate events such as board meetings, retreats, groundbreaking ceremonies and conferences. It can arrange family reunions, birthday parties, baby showers, anniversaries and other events.
It's Eventful handles events throughout King and Pierce counties.
