Driver's hope for freedom goes up in smoke

1. After a routine traffic stop near the New Horizon Motel on the 33100 block of Pacific Highway South, Federal Way officers arrested the driver of a cream colored 1979 Oldsmobile for operating his vehicle without a license. The police also nabbed him for possessing less than 40 grams of marijuana.
Fifteen minutes earlier, officers nailed another driver in the same location for driving with a suspended license, third degree. That man owns a blue 1997 Ford and was cited and arrested for the offense.
Officers get tough on abuser
2. A woman living on the 3800 block of Southwest 339th Street contacted police to report that a man came to her house and assaulted her. The victim told officers that the man had been calling her and coming to her home without her permission. The police arrested and booked the assailant for fourth-degree assault.
Local firefighter burned by prowling thieves
3. A member of the Federal Way Fire Department who lives on the 35200 block of 16th Avenue South contacted police to report that an unknown person or persons gained entry to his vehicle and lifted several items. The thieves grabbed blue FWFD clothing, valued at $200, his W-2 form, and his fire department badge from inside his white 2005 Ford. There will be no further investigation pending new leads.
Police commit suicidal woman
4. A police report indicated that a woman living on the 2200 block of Southwest 352nd Street had overdosed on percocet, muscle relaxants and hydroxyzine in an attempt to kill herself. The same woman, the report said, had attempted suicide by overdose in early November, 2005, and had tried to take her life a total of five times by the same method. Officers do not know how many pills she took that evening. The woman recently underwent back surgery and is believed to have ingested the percocet and hydroxyzine prescribed to her. Officers committed her involuntarily after the event.
Vandals decorate victim's vehicle
5. A man came into the station to report that his vehicle, a silver 1989 Ford, was vandalized while parked at his residence on the 30400 block of 1st Place South. The man's sister noticed that his vehicle had been spray painted with nasty sayings and picture of a pig. The report indicated that the entire vehicle will need to be repainted, and the damages totaled more than $1,500. The man believes the suspect is a friend of his whom he owes $15. The man reported that he saw the suspect the previous evening while driving and followed him home.
Burglars rip off vacationers
6. The inhabitants of a residence on the 2000 block of 280th Place South contacted police to report that their home had been burglarized while they were away on a three-week visit to the Philippines. The victim stated that the back door might have been left unlocked. Officers took photos and questioned the neighbors, but turned up no evidence in the case. The burglars lifted a computer monitor, valued at $400, two DVD players valued at $70 and $99, a $90 Qwest router and a gameboy.
Demand for white teeth sparks shoplifting
7. The manager of the Top Foods store on the 31500 block of 20th Avenue South contacted police to report that a shoplifter had attempted to lift some cooked chicken from the business. The manager witnessed a man select and conceal $10.99 worth of cooked chicken, and then attempt to leave the store. The manager detained the shoplifter and upon questioning him, the suspect dropped a Crest teeth whitening box from his coat. The store reported that the item sold for $39.99.
Tool-less worker left high and dry
8. The registered owner of a work van contacted police to report that some unknown person or persons smashed the driver's side window and stole thousands of dollars of equipment. The vehicle was parked overnight on the 31500 block of 25th Lane South. The tools, valued at over $3,000, were used for taping drywall. There are no suspects and officers have closed the case pending new leads.
Violent abuser busted
Officers took custody of Daniel E. Anderson, who was picked up by the King County Sheriff's Office on an outstanding Federal Way warrant. Police checked the records and confirmed that Anderson had an outstanding warrant for fourth-degree domestic violence. Officers booked Anderson in the Fife Jail.
