Please lock your cell phone keypads and turn off the 911 autodials. Seattle's 911 system is being overwhelmed with 700 calls a day being triggered accidentally when phones are jostled in a pocket or purse. And if you give your child an old cell phone to play with, please remember to remove the battery first, as the phones can still be used to make 911 calls, even if your account is no longer active.
The arbors aren't too high in one part of Arbor Heights, where someone sheared the limbs on one side of several newly planted trees. An ongoing property line dispute might be at the root of the damage.
In South Park on Sunday afternoon, a man waved down a passing firefighter and reported that he needed help for his hand, which was bleeding. Why did the firefighter call police? Because the man, who appeared disturbed, admitted that he had injured himself while breaking into a nearby business. The suspect was treated for superficial injuries and booked into King County Jail for investigation of burglary.
Unknown persons stole a laptop, its docking bay, and $200 in donations from the principal's office in a local school.
Around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, five to eight teens surrounded a student in the West Seattle High School parking lot and forced him to hand over his wallet. Their haul? A Mastercard and a whopping $3.
A man armed with a gun robbed the Admiral Wells Fargo bank around 4:30 on Tuesday. The suspect remains at large.
A former neighbor waved down a man who was seated in the passenger seat of a passing car. The two began to talk, when the man on the sidewalk reached into the car, grabbed the victim by the shoulder, and punched him seven times in the face. He apparently believed that the victim had reported him for illegal dumping in the apartment's garbage dumpsters. The driver was able to pull away. The suspect remains at large.
At 14th and Concord, three suspects approached a man, punched him repeatedly in the face and head, and rifled through his pockets. Two days later, the victim was still bleeding and decided to seek medical attention. Doctors report that he suffered several head fractures that will require further treatment. The suspects remain at large.
Late Sunday, as a couple sat on a park bench at 55th and Alki, two teens approached from behind. One was wearing a Halloween mask and black pants with multiple chains and buckles. He pulled a small revolver-style gun and fired it at the woman who, having been in the military, knew it was a fake weapon. She screamed to attract attention until they two fled. The second suspect was not wearing a mask. He is a stocky Asian male teen who wore a black hooded sweatshirt. Both suspects remain at large.
