During the recent Catholic Schools Week, Holy Rosary School honored five distinguished graduates from among the nearly 5,000 grade and high school alumni.
Those chosen because of their continued involvement with the school and parish, and their exemplary life styles of faith and family were:
- Larry and Carol Corner Jergens who graduated in the early 1950's from Holy Rosary School. They were married in 1956 in Holy Rosary Church. They have been active members in the parish and West Seattle until they moved to Mercer Island in 1966. All six of their children graduated from schools in Seattle. They now have five grandchildren at Holy Rosary School. Their daughter, Suzanne Lewis, (mother of three of the grandchildren) is a teacher at the school as well. They have given selflessly of their time, talent and treasure to Holy Rosary School through service on boards, councils and painting the Holy Rosary Church after the fire in 1998.
- Jeanne Templer Sarkies and Robert Sarkies, who are lifelong residents of West Seattle, both graduated from Holy Rosary grade school. They have been married for 55 years and have four children who graduated from Holy Rosary School as well. One granddaughter is currently enrolled at the school. They are active supporters of the parish and school
- Beverly McLucas Smith is a graduate of both Holy Rosary School grade school and high school. She married and had two children, and taught debate at Holy Rosary High School. Her work history has always included public service, as the executive director of the Washington State Nurses Association, founder of the first women's bank in the state, to serving on the board of the South Seattle Senior Foundation. As a long-time West Seattle resident and Holy Rosary Parish member, she currently sits on the school development committee, and is actively working to organize the alumni for the 100th anniversary of the school.
