Armed robbery at 7-11
While a store clerk was filling the coffee machines at a 7-11 store in the 2900 block of Kent-Des Moines Road around noon on Feb. 23, an unidentified suspect entered the store, kicked the clerk in the side, pulled a gun on him and demanded that he open the cash register.
The thief took all of the $20 and $10 bills and some $5 bills. He got away with an estimated $350-$400.
The suspect was wearing a black hat, black face mask, black jacket and jeans. Two witnesses reported that they saw him run out of the store along the right of the building.
A Des Moines K-9 police officer was brought in but was unable to locate the subject.
K-9 officer catches thief
Des Moines police officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress in the 1800 block of South 246th Place on Feb. 25 around 1:30 a.m.
While in her home a woman heard some noise outside and looked out to see a man walking in front of her shed carrying some property. The shed had been locked with a combination lock and bolt.
When officers arrived on the scene, they saw the man, shined a light onto the his face and yelled, “let me see your hands.” The suspect immediately took off and officers followed in pursuit, shooting him with twice with a tazer gun. The man eventually escaped when he jumped over a fence.
A K-9 officer was brought in and police were able to arrest the suspect after finding him huddled in some nearby bushes. He had attempted to steal a chainsaw, bandsaw, and a ladder.
Attempted theft of ATM
An unidentified white male stole a van in Seattle on Feb. 23, then drove to the Union 76 station in the 9500 block of 14th Avenue South around 6:30 a.m.
The station was closed when he got there, so he smashed out the glass in the front door and proceeded to attempt to steal the ATM machine inside. However, the ATM machine was bolted to the floor and could not be moved.
The thief left empty handed.
Sleeping drunk arrested
Des Moines police officers were called to the Taco Bell in the 22600 block of Pacific Highway South at 2:37 a.m. on Feb. 25 after employees reported that a vehicle was in the drive-thru and was not moving.
The driver had placed an order 30 minutes earlier but had not pulled up to the window to get his food, and the store had since closed.
When officers arrived the car was still running and the driver was slumped over in his seat. When they awakened the man and told him to get out of the car, they could smell the strong odor of alcohol. They asked the man if he had been drinking and he said, “If it was me rum.” His speech was slurred and he had trouble standing.
The 20-year-old drunk was arrested and taken to King County Jail.
