Let’s not obfuscate the obvious with a facade of journalistic balance.
It was enjoyable to see a healthy local conservative-liberal debate between Ralph Nichols and Eric Mathison. However, the Robinson Newspaper monopoly cannot claim to be unbiased.
Two weeks prior to the school bond vote there were six feature stories supporting and/or justifying the $148 million school bond. Opposing stories were zero. Letters to the editor written by self-serving minions of education ran 7 to 0. It was no surprise that the Highline “Democrat” News endorsed the school bond as it will endorse the lifting of the levy lid in Des Moines and the Burien Town Square fiasco.
Populated by low-income senior citizens, a depressed business community, welfare clients, a high immigrant population, poor single parent families, an above average high school drop-out rate, a high crime rate and roaming gangs, the only answer is to build a new and expensive government project?
Will a “flagship” library become a serious meeting place for the exchange of ideas or a meeting place for gang-bangers. Will the “state of the art” city hall improve the business climate or become a comfortable home for bureaucrats who seek to embellish their personal resume and retire in luxury at taxpayer’s expense?
As a political pundit remarked, “If you think it’s expensive now, wait till it’s free.”
Their continual support for unlimited government spending bolstered by a universal victimization-entitlement culture is the personal credo of the Robinson’s. Allowing a small voice of opposition to the Nanny State is a small step in the right direction in a left-leaning community.
As a taxpayer who deserves better, I offer a reserved “Thank You.”
