Dear Ballard:
Some amazing friends of ours and the Salmon Bay Eagles are trying to help a friend who has cancer. You might know her.
Our friend, Michelle Moyer, is a familiar face to anyone that has stopped by the Ballard Smokeshop in the last four years. She is a 37-year-old single mom with two wonderful kids.
Michelle was diagnosed with cutaneous lymphoma in 2002 and shortly afterward with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. She's gone through the usual cancer treatments - chemotherapy and radiation - and is trying a more naturopathic approach now with treatments from Bastyr University. All of this costs money. Especially since Michelle has no medical insurance or paid time off - a reality in the restaurant industry.
So we need your help.
We have put together an evening of food, fun, music and dancing on Friday, April 7, 2006 at the Salmon Bay Eagles.
We are thrilled to have Blue Is Cold, a country-rock opening band coming all the way from Richland, WA to help out and also Dudley Manlove's country-western alter-ego band The Shitkickers headlining. (www.blueiscold.com and www.dudleymanlove.com/shitkickers).
The Salmon Bay Eagles are hosting dinner that evening - homemade lasagna with all the fixings for just $8 - and all proceeds will go to Michelle's cause. Dinner is from 6-9:00 pm that evening. The music starts at 9:00 pm and you can come for music, food, or both.
We're also selling raffle tickets ($1.00), admission tickets for the music ($10.00), and we're soliciting silent auction items from any Ballard businesses willing to donate. Prizes include $300 cash, a stay in a downtown hotel with dinner for two at the Space Needle and a private Puget Sound salmon fishing charter. You can also stop by the Eagles to buy raffle tickets in advance or donate items.
Our goal in all this is to help fund Michelle's treatments and some money to cover rent while she recuperates with her family. We're trying to raise $3,000.
You do not have to be a member of the Eagles to attend - anybody can come. We hope everybody in Ballard does. You don't need to know Michelle, you just need to want to help and have a great time doing it. If you're new to Ballard, come meet some old-timers, and if you're a lifelong resident like me, come down and be part of this great community!
