Leonard Frank Bedford who was affectionately known as Lenny B, died early on March 14, 2006 in his home in Bellevue, WA, at age 60. He was born on August 24, 1945 in Newbern, North Carolina. After his father was discharged from the Marine Corps, the family moved to Washington when he was 6 months old, where Lenny grew up in West Seattle, involved in scouting, skiing, building model airplanes and playing musical instruments as part of his passions. He graduated from West Seattle High and attended the University of Washington. Len was fascinated with model airplanes from an early age and won the National 1/2A Free Flight contest in 1963, then became an apprentice model maker at Boeing in 1965. He received his journeyman model maker certificate a few years later. In 1988 he started his own machine shop, Bedford Precision in Kirkland. Bedford Precision continues to thrive thanks to long-time friend Ed Schurr, after Len's stroke in 1992. His stroke was so severe that he was not expected to recover, but fooled everyone by continuing to improve. Leonard's father, Loren Frank Bedford precedes him in death. He is survived by his mother, Emily M. Bedford and stepfather, Stan Christensen of Seattle; his brother Cole Crocker-Bedford of Grand Canyon, AZ and sister Diane Woomer, and niece Alana of Durango, CO; his long time spouse Nancy Jo Plewes Bedford of Mercer Island, and his sons Ramsey Bedford of Mercer Island, Casey Bedford of Renton and Jesse Bedford of Bellevue; two nephews, Trevor Bedford of Boston, MA and Ashton Bedford of Flagstaff, AZ; two Uncles, Ron Bedford in AZ and John Miller in KY; two Aunts, Lennie Fornes and Ruth Nau in Virginia; and many cousins. A Celebration of Life was held Sunday, March 19, at Unity Church at 16330 NE 4th Street, Bellevue, where he sang in the choir.
