After reading your March 15 article, "Some parents question ways of school discipline," I felt compelled to respond.
As a parent of three children who have all attended Schmitz Park Elementary over the past twelve years, I see nothing wrong with the "Wall". The children at Schmitz Park know the rules and they understand that if they don't respect the rules it will result in consequences. I don't feel that having to stand against a wall during recess is in any way a cruel or humiliating punishment. Children need to learn to be accountable for their actions.
With all the serious issues the Seattle Public Schools are facing, I was surprised that this was your front page story. I think the article you placed on page 9, "Schools gaining in academics," would have been a more newsworthy story than the "Wall" at Schmitz Park.
