The "Lady known as Lou" peacefully fell asleep April 3. She came to Seattle at the tender age of 19, hitchhiking with a girlfriend from her hometown of Mayville, Wisconsin. The youngest of eleven children, she was the last of her siblings to leave this earthly realm. Her nearest and dearest sister, Marge Lewis, had joined her in Seattle and they remained close until Marge's death in 2003. Her relationship with Marge's daughter, her niece, Shirly Miller, gave her great solace. They shared an interest in their German heritage and would thrill over each note, card or picture sent by her many nieces, nephews & grand nieces.

Her beloved husband, Galen, preceded her in death by 34 years. She never remarried maintaining and cherishing her independence. She instilled that independent nature as well as a love for music, performance and dance in her survived and only child, her daughter Gail. She delighted in her only grandchild, Peter Lore-Herbert, holding dear each visit they had as he was growing up.

Her passions included her Corgi's, garage saling and dancing. She took an avid interest in everything and everybody and was constantly asking questions to keep informed.

She was proud to be the first woman on the board of Peace Lutheran Church and her ability to obtain a job as a Sears Collection Officer, from which she retired, after years of being a stay at home wife and mother.

A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, May 17th, from 2-4 p.m at the West Seattle Senior Center, 4217 SW Oregon. Live music (swing & jazz standards) will be provided so that all her family and friends can honor her memory, engaging in her favorite pastime, dancing.
