Westside School is moving toward its goal of adding another class per grade and starting in the fall it will have two kindergarten classes.
After examining the large number of applications and the limited number of available spaces, the board of directors and the head of school decided that the demand for kindergarten was strong enough to add a second class.
Westside kindergarten teaches children to love learning by exposing them to new ideas and curriculum in a variety of innovative ways. In addition to the basics, kindergarten students also start learning Chinese and build on the skills they've already acquired in preschool for music, art, physical education and Spanish.
Next year, all Westside students will enjoy a new library and art center. Westside families, deeply committed to the school, have fundraised over $50,000 for books, computers, software, musical instruments and more for our art, music and library program. This new addition is much needed and students will be able to experience music class with a sound system and instruments, art class with space to store and dry long-term art projects, and a library that will feature cozy places to read and row after row of books as well as state of the art computers for research and library software.
Westside offers strong curriculum in all their classes from preschool to fifth grade and specializes in creating programs that build from grade to grade. Students progress from mastering basic skills in the early grades to being able to solve complex problems and develop reports that include oral, written, and artistic components. Our students graduate with the ability to speak in front of their peers comfortably and are confident, caring and intelligent students.
