A motorcyclist lost control of his bike on Alki Avenue and struck a skateboarder on the bike path, killing both men near Duwamish Head Thursday night.
The motorcyclist was identified as Leon Coley Jr., 37.
The skateboarder was 21-year-old Travis Gracey.
Coley was killed when he lost control of his bike, veered off Alki Avenue and struck and killed Gracey on the bike path.
The accident happened shortly before 10 p.m. Witnesses told police the motorcyclist was going northeast at a high rate of speed when he was unable to make a slight turn in the road, said Officer Debra Brown, spokeswoman for the Seattle Police Department.
The motorcycle crossed the southwest-bound lane of Alki Avenue and went onto the parallel bike path where it hit Gracey, who was skateboarding with two relatives.
Both men were treated by Seattle Fire Department crews and transported to Harborview Medical Center in "extremely critical condition," Brown said.
Alcohol might have been a factor in the accident, she said.
Gracey died of a skull fracture, lacerations and blunt force injuries, according to the King County Medical Examiner's office.
Coley suffered lacerations to the brain and liver as well as blunt-force injury to the head, neck and torso, the medical examiner reported.
