The bar was set high for state qualification for the athletes at the 3A West Central District meet, with only the top three in each event going on to this past weekend's state action in Pasco.
But area schools still had a good number of athletes break through to meet that standard to reach state.
Marlon Murray won the 200-meter dash in 22.88 seconds for Highline and he also captured second in the 100 in 11.29.
Charles Serisier captured first in the 800 in 1:58.43 and Evergreen's Vincente Cordova won the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches and also placed third in the triple jump at 43-10.5.
Ryan Prentice of Mount Rainier took second in the 1,600 in 4:29.72 ahead of Serisier's third place time of 4:29.77.
Highline came in second in the boys 400-meter relay in 43.30.
Nkeiru Ugwoaba of Highline qualified in three girls events.
Ugwoaba won the 200-meter dash in 26.13 and she also took first in the triple jump at 37-1.5. She was second in the 100 in 12.41
Kelly Mason of the Pirates placed third in the 200 in 26.87 and Kennedy's Chaelle Piper-Lewis placed third in the 110 hurdles in 15.72.
Highline took the girls 400 relay in 50.00.
