kills suspect in fight
After he was attacked during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 on June 6, a SeaTac police officer fatally shot his assailant.
While transporting a woman to the King County Jail on a drug charge that evening, King County Sheriff's Deputy Paul Schene, a five-year veteran, observed a driver speeding and weaving in and out of traffic on the Interstate.
Schene, who serves as a SeaTac policeman, signaled for the man to pull over and the suspect, Pedro Jo, 33, stopped in the middle of two northbound traffic lanes.
According to the King County Sheriff's Office, Jo eventually pulled to the side of the road after Schene got out of his police car and persuaded him to move to the shoulder.
When the deputy approached the car again, reports say, Jo jumped out of his car and attacked Schene
Jo had a prior conviction of assault in 2003 and served three months in jail.
The fight that ensued was a "knock down drag out fight," said deputies.
As of press time June 10, Schene had not released a statement, but after the fight Jo reportedly returned to his car where he was shot.
Jo died at the scene.
It was still unclear if there was a weapon in the car Jo was driving or if he had a weapon on him.
Schene has been placed on paid administrative leave, which his routine when an officer is involved in a shooting.
