Meet Ruby Leonard Spengler.
This popular pioneer citizen of the Highline area is doing fine in spite of some health setbacks, and still has her winning smile.
Meet Camella Kono
She is surgery coordinator for three physicians in the Three Tree Medical Building next door to Highline Medical Center.
When Elsbeth and I went to schedule a date for her hip replacement by Dr. Barronian, I was struck by Konos' curly black hair so I asked if she slept on a scrub board.
She said, laughing, "No, it is natural. My father is Japanese and my mother is from Palau, a group of islands in the North Pacific.
"I was born in Guam and was the 12th in a family of 13 kids."
She goes by the name Kono because most people don't know how to pronounce her first name with the accent on the second syllable.
She is only 5 foot 4 inches but made a name for herself playing high school basketball in Guam where she was Athlete of the Year.
She then came to the states where she played for Texas College in San Antonio for two years before serving in the military for three years.
As you can see she has a winning smile.
Wave at Louise Rice
Louise Rice goes to yoga every morning, comes home and works in the garden, goes shopping and then walks to Old Burien and back home to Three Tree Point, unless the temperature is over 100 or there is two feet of snow on the ground.
If you see her marching along with her arms swinging, her head bent forward with a determined look on her face, honk, wave, but don't offer her a ride. She will refuse it.
Where is Bruce Mennella?
This former owner of Southgate Ford in Burien is alive and extremely well. He is still in the car business only, now he works for a company that advises automotive franchises around the nation on steps they can take to enhance their business.
Bruce works with companies in Washington.
