shoplifting at Safeway
A 15-year-old boy was arrested after he was caught stealing and struggling with store security officers.
On July 14 around 6 p.m., a security officer at Safeway in the 21400 block of Pacific Highway S. watched as the boy took three DVDs and walked past the checkout lines and out the door.
When he tried to apprehend the boy, the officer was elbowed in the ribs. A second security officer who helped in the struggle was punched in the chest.
After getting the boy under control and in handcuffs, they took him inside the store to wait for a Des Moines Police officer. While inside, he tried to run out the door but was caught once again.
The suspect had never been arrested before and his mother said that until recently he had been an honor student. He was released to his parents.
Man robbed by armed trio
A man told Des Moines Police he was attacked and robbed while walking back from a local tavern on July 13 around 11:50 p.m.
After having some drinks, he was walking in the 21600 block of 29th Ave. S. when three men came up to him and demanded he give them whatever he had.
One suspect took out a knife and cut the victim's pants at the pockets, exposing his wallet.
Another suspect grabbed the wallet and took our $180.
A third suspect then pulled out a gun and put it to the victim's head. His head then was hit against a utility pole.
An unidentified woman approached them, took the money and fled with a suspect on 29th Ave. S. The other two suspects went east on S. 216th St.
The victim was taken home. The suspects have not been located.
Tobacco store burglarized
The Tobacco Mart at 14400 Ambaum Blvd. S. was burglarized on June 13 around 3 a.m. after suspects threw a concrete brick through the store window, smashing a double-paned plate-glass window.
They stole two cartons of cigarettes from behind the counter. They were caught on a security video.
