The Supreme Court of our state upholds the institution of marriage, keeping it intact as being between one man and one woman. I was elated when I heard the news, because it looked like the decision would go the other way.
With so much erosion of positive values in our society by the courts, it was good to see the majority of the court uphold one of the most important institutions of our society, marriage. From its inception by God, marriage has always been between men and women. Ideally it was meant to be between one man and one woman, as it reads in Genesis 2:24: "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh."
Allowing same-sex couples to marry would have completely changed marriage. No different than if we changed the definition of a human being to include dogs and cats. By changing the definition, you change the object.
One of the most important reasons for marriage to remain intact is its affect on children. Children need a mother and a father. Same-sex couples deny a child of either a mother or a father. We as adults and as a society should look out for the best interest of children rather than the indulgences of a few adults. I'm glad to see the majority of the State Supreme Court, in this case, did just that.
To all who were praying for this decision, please take time to thank God for moving in the hearts of the justices. Also, please continue to pray that our legislators will uphold marriage.
