It's been more than a year since the Army Corps of Engineers dismantled the rock baskets that armored the Seahurst Park shoreline.
Sea life is returning to the restored beach.
Now the public has the chance to see the changes and get their questions answered about the whats and whys of this massive waterfront improvement project.
"BYOK"-bring your own kayak-to the beach at Seahurst Park for this opportunity on Saturday, Aug. 19.
Paddle along the shoreline from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Andrea MacLennan, an expert from Coastal Geologic Services, and see geology in action.
View the area where the old sea wall was removed, as well as the local forest, bluffs and slides as MacLennan points out changes taking place in Burien's geology and ecology along Puget Sound.
Kayakers are asked to provide their own gear and appropriate safety equipment. Paddlers and non-paddlers alike are invited to arrive early to explore the shore by walking with knowledgeable beach naturalists.
BYOK is sponsored by the Environmental Science Center, the city of Burien and the Conservation Division of the Mountaineers.
