OAR Northwest won the 3,100 nautical mile Shepard Ocean Fours Rowing Race from New York to England's Bishop's Rock, on Friday, August 18 in a time of 68 days, 23 hours and 18 minutes, after leaving New York on June 10.
OAR Northwest became the first Americans to row from the mainland of the U.S. to mainland U.K. They are also the first Americans to row the Atlantic from West to East, in addition to being the first American "Oceans Four Class" rowing team.
Team members Jordan Hanssen, Greg Spooner, Brad Vickers and Dylan LeValley arrived with two months worth of facial hair after going unshaven during the trip.
OAR Northwest maintained a 350 statue mile lead over the Yorkshire Warrior and a 640 mile lead over Team Hesco.
By finishing the race, the four Seattle men, who rowed at the University of Puget Sound, ended their two-hour continuous rowing shifts in pairs. They only stopped rowing during adverse weather conditions and winds which threatened to send them off course.
