High-speed I-5 crash
The driver of a speeding Mercedes was arrested after his car slammed into the rear end of a bread truck on Interstate 5 near the Kent-Des Moines exit early Aug. 31.
Witnesses said the car was going over 100 mph when the 1:30 a.m. accident occurred in the northbound lanes, according to the Washington State Patrol.
One passengers in the Mercedes was critically injured, the other sustained serious injuries. The 67-year-old truck driver also was seriously injured. All three were taken to Harborview Medical Center.
The 26-year-old driver was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of DUI and vehicular assault.
Vandals damage school
Two incidents of vandalism in two days at Southern Heights Elementary School were reported to the King County Sheriff's Office in mid-August.
Around 3:30 p.m. Aug. 14, an unidentified suspect broke a window and entered a portable building at the school in the 11200 block of 14th Ave. S. in North Highline. The suspect sprayed a fire extinguisher on the floor.
Another portable was broken into and a fire extinguisher sprayed in the building around 9 a.m. Aug. 15.
Unlocked car=stolen purse
A woman parked her car outside Trader Joe's in the 15800 block of 1st Ave. S. in Burien around 5:45 p.m. Aug. 23. When she got back in her car, she didn't realize until she was home that her purse had been stolen off the passenger seat. Her car was unlocked the entire time she was in the store.
