Art lovers in Burien will take to the streets for the annual Art Walk on Saturday, Sept. 9, along Southwest 152nd Street between Second and 10th Avenue Southwest.
Visual arts exhibits, performing artists and children's activities will highlight the event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A "BQ Dance Collective" featuring performances of outdoor dance pieces will be held on the sidewalks and corners of Southwest 152nd Street between Sixth and 10th Avenues Southwest from 2 to 2:30 p.m.
The final performance will be in storefront window of B-Town Scoop ice cream store, 917 S.W. 152nd St.
Pedestrians strolling down 152nd Street during this half hour will encounter something they've never seen before-modern dancers floating from corner to corner, accompanied by live poetry readings before their performance culminates in a storefront window.
Sponsored by 4 Culture and created by BQ Dance Collective as an original performance piece for downtown Burien, this event is presented by Burien Arts Commission as part of 4Culture's Site-Specific King County Performance Network.
The Network includes unusual performances throughout suburban King County cities at outdoor sites where the public is least likely to encounter them. For a schedule, contact www.4Culture.org or call 206-296-8677.
Also included in Burien is a demonstration of the intricate henna art painting form on a live model by Subhashini Santhanam. A symbol of happiness and prosperity in India, henna designs are customarily drawn on hands and feet at private events such as weddings.
This fall's downtown Art Walk continues its street performance theme with interactive mime and acoustic guitar. A duo of former Cornish College dancers, Fanzine, will also be romping to boom-box '80s disco music.
The Art Walk again will feature exhibits of 25 visual artists inside businesses located on Southwest152nd Street.
Complimentary wine sampling will be available at the Bella Vino shop, Pogi Bonsi, and Dan the Sausage Man stores.
The Seahurst Gallery, 15210 10th Ave S.W., will be celebrating its 40th anniversary with a "Patio Party" featuring live music and refreshments from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All activities are free and open to the public. For information, contact Burien Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services at 206-988-3700 or www.burienparks.net, or Discover Burien at 206-433-2882 or www.discoverburien.com.
