Last month, I wrote a letter to the editor regarding my experience as a Summer Fest vendor who resides in West Seattle. I put my name and address at the bottom. It never occurred to me that the editor of this fine neighborhood newspaper would list another neighborhood under my name.
I could find nothing in the West Seattle Herald that tells a reader they must name a neighborhood in their letter to the editor, so perhaps West Seattle Herald should be certain of the writer's neighborhood before randomly selecting a neighborhood for that writer. If it is important to editorial staff to name a neighborhood and they have not made themselves familiar with the many wonderful neighborhoods that comprise the geography of West Seattle, the problem could be solved quite simply be e-mailing the writer and verifying the neighborhood.
In my case, I live in Westwood Neighborhood. Westwood is bordered by Roxbury to the south, 35th to the east, Delridge to the west and Holden to the north. Sunrise Heights actually begins one block inside of Westwood Neighborhood and goes from Kenyon to Myrtle where the High Point neighborhood begins.
I am a past president of Westwood Neighborhood Council and one of the founding members of that organization and have, along with many others, worked very hard to establish an identity for this neighborhood. Other parts of the city and certainly the real estate community are aware of the neighborhood. Hopefully, the West Seattle Herald will catch up with the rest of us.
Peace.
