Rams down Totems in opener

Mount Rainier quickly destroyed an under-manned, less than a dozen suited up, Tyee team, 9-0, in girls opening round Seamount League soccer action at Highline Memorial Field Thursday.
The Rams improved to 1-1 while Tyee remains winless.
The Rams lost, incidentally, to Enumclaw 6-0, for their loss, but that is all OK because head coach Jerry Capodanno knows how to get a team better as the season goes along and also he is missing a couple players, including perhaps his best player in junior Sarah Martinez.
"We are missing Sarah, she was our second leading goal scorer (13) last year," said Cappadanno.
That is not all they are missing.
"We lost our leading scorer, Nicole Murray. She is now on a full-ride scholarship at the University of Washington," he said. "So we have to find someone to replace her. I need to find someone who can take corners, do dead-ball situations (free kicks), is accurate, those are big shoes to fill. But you know what? They will get it."
The Rams got on the board with goal after goal after goal, literally speaking, in the third, fifth, and seventh minutes of the game.
The first three goals were scored by Becky Harris for the first two and Brandi Brown for the third.
The first three assists all went to the same person, Chanel Fuchigami.
And if one were to talk to Capodanno, they would find out that although he likes the goals, don't get it wrong folks, he also likes the ones that pass the ball to the ones that score.
"I'm trying to tell them, you get a point for an assist just like you get a point for a goal," he said.
Fuchigami could tell you exactly how the scores came for her, "The first one was a through ball to Becky, the second I crossed and Becky volleyed it in, the third goal was where I went to the end line and square-balled it to the middle and Becky was there to put it in."
Fuchigami could recap her goals and more.
"The fourth goal was Brown again, with Kaity Brough assisting, it was another through ball. The fifth goal was Ashley Messmer, assisted by Sam Brown."
At that point, Capodanno just wanted to say something, too, as he was saying, 'yeah, OK, yeah, OK, to Fuchigami, rattling off her goals and also her teammates', and all the assist makers.
"I'm glad you remember all this, I need films," laughed Capodanno.
Not only did Fuchigami notice what others did well after the first 15-20 minutes of a game with a zillion scores in it and, hence, assisters, she also saw that Capodanno had her with not the right number of assists. He was off by one but she quickly knew how to give herself the credit.
Well, Fuchigami could name off the rest of the goals, too, but we'll name them quickly. It was Jillian Schneeman with the sixth goal, with the assist to Harris, at the 24:21 mark of still the first half. Then it was Shelby Blair a few minutes later finding the net, after a pass from Fuchigami inside the 18-yard box.
The halftime came and 7-0 was the score. After that, it was 35 seconds later that Jarin Storrs scored, with the assist to Blair.
"That was a give and go through ball and she (Storrs) ripped it from 18 yards out on the corner," said Fuchigami.
OK, we let the junior explain things perfectly once more. And, so since Fuchigami's being used here, let's go for it one more time with description number nine.
"The ninth goal was Brown again, she had a hat trick, and I crossed it in to her for another header," said Fuchigami.
Wait a second, where was the other header?
"The sixth goal, Jillian (Schneeman) headed it in after Becky's cross from the right side," she said.
Capodanno was happy with not the win or goals necessarily. He was happy with what they did during the game.
"It's not the win nor goals that I was pleased with, but that they moved the ball fast, playing a one or two touch game," he said. "They were moving on and off the ball. We will have a decent squad as the season goes along and once we get healthy."
For the Totems of Tyee, it was an improvement just to have the 11 players out there. They had no subs and were certainly tired one could think. But they did only have two goals scored on them in the second half as opposed to seven in the first.
That pleased their coach, Sisto Pina.
