Dear Editor:
Our school buildings are falling apart, literally. Sixty percent of our schools are 35 years or older.
Some, if they were a person, would have long ago cashed their first Social Security Check.
In addition, we desperately need to upgrade our maintenance, transportation and food service facilities.
A large but necessary task you say? Indeed. It can, however, be accomplished. The current bond is expiring.
If extended, it will allow the school district to restore almost every school in the district - 24 schools in all - with the help of the state. Passage of the November 7th measure will trigger $20 million in matching state funds. While the expiring bond will remain our tax rate will not raise.
Thankfully our parents and grandparents planned for the future and provided for us. I ask that you plan for the future of our children and grandchildren by voting yes on November 7th.
Sincerely,
Senator Tracey J. Eide
