There was an accidental shooting that occurred at a house on Occidental Ave near 120th. In that case a teenager was playing with a gun in the house. The gun went off and killed another teen who was also in the house. The teenagers were step brothers. The shooting was determined to be an accident and very unfortunate. The teen who did the shooting has been charged with manslaughter. Our sympathies go to the family.
We had three robberies in September. In one case, a shoplifter tried to steal some items from Bartells. The store security officers tried to stop him. The suspect fought with the officers as he tried to get away. The suspect was eventually arrested and booked for robbery. The suspect was well known to the police. In the second robbery, a suspect took some money from the cash register at the Safeway gas station by threatening the clerk. In the third robbery, the suspect took the victims bike by threatening the victim.
We average nine burglaries a month and we had nine in September. In four of those the burglar got into the house through an open window. Come on folks, close those windows when you leave the house. All of the burgs occurred during the day before 6 p.m. Be sure to report suspicious people in your neighborhood, such as the burglar walking around looking for an easy house to break into.
We arrested 29 people for warrants, made five arrests for driving under the influence, arrested four people for possessing felony drugs, arrested two people for driving stolen cars and towed 21 abandon cars.
That's all I have for this month. I know it's not much, but not having much crime to report is a good thing. See you next month. If you have questions or comments please call me at 423 0393. Don't forget to get involved in the community, don't tolerate criminal activity in your neighborhood and do your part to make our community a little safer.
