Two men were arrested last week for the thefts of brass cemetery vases from Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac. Both men were booked into King County Jail for investigation of possession of stolen property.
At least 200 grave vases were stolen in recent weeks from the SeaTac cemetery and Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bellevue. The five-pound vases are worth about $150 each.
One suspect is a 44 year-old Burien man who was arrested after detectives determined he sold at least 89 of the vases at metal recyclers around King County. He was booked into jail but released the next day pending formal charges.
The second suspect is also a registered Level 3 homeless sex offender.
Detectives had not determined whether the two men worked together or separately.
Food store wallet thefts
King County Sheriff's deputies have responded to 12 reports of thefts of wallets from purses over the last six weeks. The thefts are occurring at Albertson's in Burien and White Center and Fred Meyer, Safeway and the Grocery Outlet in Burien.
In each case the victim was distracted by an accomplice and her wallet was taken a by the second suspect. In another case, the purse was stolen from a shopping cart.
Following one recent theft, a victim's credit card was used at a Circle K store across the street less than 10 minutes later.
Both suspects were described as African American males, 21 to 26 years old.
Rocks hit local school buses
At least six Highline School District buses have had their windows shattered by rocks while driving on State Route 509.
So far, the incidents have happened at the same location at the same time of day as the buses were on the onramp to SR 509 from South 128th Street.
Burien police think the rocks are being thrown from ground level, not from an overpass.
No children have been on board.
