Corner Park
As the community is using the name Ballard Corner Park and it's working for us, then please respect the community that is actually building the park and let it be named Ballard Corner Park.
It's on a corner, it's in Ballard, and it is our park. Don't risk alienating an established and vested stewardship group with some goofy name, please. Emmett Watson has no significance to Ballard I am aware of.
Other than Bergen Place Park, I believe that it's the only Ballard Park that is mainly on a corner. I don't see any other Parks in Seattle that have corner in their name - including my favorite orphan, Boren Place Park which is actually a three cornered park - but we don't mind setting another precedent.
And if "Place" is an acceptable park name, so should be "Corner." We have a "Westlake Square," and a "Katherine Colman Triangle," but I would hesitate to use the word "square" in any Ballard park.
I've forwarded this announcement to the Ballard News Tribune, the Ballard District Council, also and to Groundswell Northwest for their upcoming membership meeting to consider this opportunity to formally name the park.
