Tue, 11/21/2006
Two days after a pedestrian fatality at the same intersection, a citizen was crossing Admiral Way at 47th , at 9:30 p.m., holding one of the new reflective pedestrian flags. A vehicle approached, coming up the hill from the Alki area, and as the walker began to wave the flag, the driver not only failed to stop at the crosswalk, but actually sped up and continued driving eastbound. Witnesses noted the license number of the gray Toyota Prius, which is registered to a Mukilteo residence. Officers did not locate the car in the area.
In the 8800 block of 20th SW, a couple had gone to bed Sunday evening when they heard a commotion on the front porch. Someone was ringing the doorbell and pounding on the door. Looking through a window, they saw a white male they did not know, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, walking away from their porch with a white juvenile, about 7 years old, under his arm. The child was yelling for assistance. The couple called 911, but officers didn't find any signs of the pair. They even went door-to-door, inquiring about missing children, but no neighbors reported any problem.
In the 7500 block of 30th SW, a resident got angry with a woman who was leaving business fliers in the area. She got scared, told him to "have a nice day," and walked away from his porch. The man allegedly called her a derogatory term and told her to "Pick up your s**t," referring to an old flier lying on the ground. The woman explained this wasn't her flier, and continued to walk away. The man ran up from behind, grabbed her by the neck and hair, seemingly pulling her back toward his house. She began screaming, and a co-worker came running down the street toward them, yelling at the man to let her go. Another witness heard the screaming and came out to investigate. The suspect let the woman go and retreated to his house. When officers arrived he denied assaulting the woman. He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.
A concerned woman called 911 to report that her 48-year-old neighbor had been yelling and talking to herself for an hour. In a 45-minute discussion with officers, she made little sense. She didn't know what day it was, "because the weather keeps messing it up." She also assured officers that her mother, "don't eat hay." When they expressed concern for her, she said she would solve the problem that night by killing herself. She was transported to Harborview for an evaluation.
Declaring that they were satanic, an Alki woman threw her roommate's laptop computer and personal pictures and negatives into the trash and ordered her to move out. Roomie is happy to do so but afraid to leave the premises, fearing that the rest of her belongings will be discarded. She left for the evening, after officers told the trash-happy roommate to not touch the woman's items. The victim will call for a police standby when she comes back to get her possessions.
An outboard motor was stolen from a boat parked in a driveway in the 9000 block of 31st SW.
On Monday, a woman caught a bus downtown and got off at Delridge and Holly. So did a man who had spoken with her on the bus. As she walked up a stairwell, the man ran up to her, said, "Give me that," and yanked the victim's purse from her shoulder, causing her to fall. The suspect remains at large.
