Brian Wilson, shown here in a press conference last March, will take the reins of the Federal Way Police Department as the newly-appointed Chief. Wilson, the former Deputy Chief, was given the position by City Manager Neal Beets last week.

Federal Way City Manager Neal Beets announced today the appointment of Brian Wilson as Federal Way's Chief of Police.
Chief Wilson replaces Chief Anne Kirkpatrick who is now the Chief of Police in Spokane.
"Brian is the right person at the right time for the Police Department," said Beets. "He is a person of strong character with an excellent background in police services."
Wilson has been the Deputy Chief of Police in Federal Way for the last ten years. Before Federal Way, Wilson worked his way up from an Officer to a Commander in the Renton Police Department.
Wilson's appointment as Federal Way's new Police Chief is supported by Federal Way Mayor Michael Park. "Brian is well respected in the community. He volunteers on a number of non-profit boards. And he is the right person to lead the Department as it grows in size to provide more service to the community."
Federal Way voters approved a ballot proposition last month that will add 18 new police officers to its current staff of 120 officers.
"I am proud to have the opportunity to lead the Federal Way Police Department," said Wilson. "We have great officers and a great command staff." Wilson said his priorities will be to hire first-rate police officers, make sure all officers are well-trained and equipped, and to work with the City Council as well as other neighborhood and community leaders to provide police service which is "the best of the best."
Wilson is married to Diane Wilson and has two sons.
