Persons interested in supporting this year's Relay for Life will have a chance to learn more about the national fundraiser at a 7 p.m. Kick-Off Party in Burien on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
The party at Highline Medical Center's Somers Auditorium, 16255 Sylvester Road S.W. will include presentations by survivors, volunteers and special guests, as well as food and beverages.
Relay for Life, which supports and funds the mission of the American Cancer Society, will take place June 23-24.
Highline High School's Memorial Stadium will host the second annual Relay for Life of Highline.
Chairwoman Sandra Hart, who started the local event last year after volunteering with the West Seattle relay, said the new location at Highline Memorial Stadium will draw more participants and allow the effort to raise more money this year.
Last summer the relay took place at the Olympic School track in Des Moines.
"It is a great privilege to be able to partner with the Highline School District on this two-day event, which is designed to raise as much awareness about cancer prevention as it is to raise money for research into cures for cancer," Hart said.
"After the enormous success we had with a first-time event last year, we are ready to move to a bigger venue in the heart of Burien. We are excited about how the community has embraced this cause so quickly."
Relay for Life is a community gathering where everyone can participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track to signify that cancer never sleeps.
