Effective immediately, the City of Federal Way is extending the hours for accepting passport applications at City Hall, 33325 8th Avenue South. You may now apply for a passport Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the second floor Permit Center Help Desk.
The City is an approved Passport Acceptance Facility, allowing staff to assist with applications for a United States passport, provide general information on passport procedures, and serve as a liaison between applicants and Passport Services Agency. The actual decision to issue or deny a passport is made only by a Passport Services Agency, not the City of Federal Way.
Two separate payments are required: one to the City of Federal Way and one to Passport Services. Credit cards will not be accepted, and cash will only be accepted for the City of Federal Way payment.
Payment may be made by check, money order, or cashier's check. A payment of $30 for the agency acceptance fee must be made to the City of Federal Way.
A second payment must be made to Passport Services in the amount of $67 (individuals age 16 and up) or $52 (age 15 and under). Passport renewals may be done through the mail for $67 (applications available at City Hall).
Normal processing time is four to six weeks. Expedited processing can be done in ten business days for an additional fee of $60 (payable to Passport Services).
The individual applying for a passport must appear in person (including children). The following documentation is needed when applying for a passport: two identical passport photos, evidence of citizenship (certified birth certificate or naturalization papers), and photo identification. All supporting documentation must be the original and will be returned by the Passport Services Agency upon issuance of a passport. Applicants under the age of 14 will require the consent of both parents (both must appear) and proof of relationship.
