Peter Maier, current president of the advocacy group School's First, has announced he will seek a seat on the Seattle School Board for District One.
Sally Soriano currently represents that area, which covers northern Ballard across the city to Magnuson Park.
Maier said he's running because the School Board is in need of guidance.
"Our School Board needs focused, steady and responsible leadership," Maier said, in a statement he released last week. "These are the skills I will bring to the board."
As president of School's First, Maier helped lead the school bond and levy campaign this year, in which voters approved $887 million in school maintenance and operation programs.
Maier grew up in Lake City and graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1970.He currently lives in Loyal Heights with his wife, Liz Tennant. Their two children attended Seattle Public Schools and graduated from Ballard High.
He graduated with honors from Harvard Law School and has a private practice representing consumers. The president of the League of Education Voters, Lisa Macfarlane, has endorsed Maier.
The primary election for District One is August 21 and the citywide general election is Nov. 6.
