There is a potential development within NE Tacoma that would have dire consequences to the citizens of west Federal Way.

As many of you may know, there will be a meeting of the Tacoma City Council at their chambers on March 27 at 5:00 pm, where the council will decide to continue, rescind or modify the current moratorium on planned residential developments (PRD).
Extending the PRD moratorium to 12 months (or as necessary) will allow the the city staff to comprehensively update the regulations to provide predictability in PRD areas over time, as well as provide an acceptable definition of open space.
The decision to thoroughly update the PRD codes has a regional impact far beyond the city, with particularly dire impacts for Federal Way, given the large proposal at the Northshore Golf Course. As applied, this is the largest development in the history of Tacoma and will huge effects on our infrastructure, traffic and quality of life for the entire west side of Federal Way. Environment, open space, location of density, predictability of development all effect the quality of life in a city. In many ways this is what defines a community and a great city. I strongly believe the the council has an opportunity to shape the city of Tacoma and neighboring communities for years to come.
If you are able, it would be very helpful for Federal Way residents to attend this meeting of the Tacoma City Council and urge them to seize this opportunity to extend the current moratorium to 12 months.
Thank you and kind regards,
Eric Elgar
