Burien City Councilwoman Sally Nelson, vice chairwoman of The Equity and Opportunity Panel for the National League of Cities, was a keynote speaker at a recent workshop in Washington, D.C.
Nelson spoke on "Inclusiveness ... How do you do it?" during the annual National League of Cities conference.
Burien, she noted, "has been recognized for its outstanding leadership as an 'Inclusive Community'"
It is also one of 10 cities in the United States to be featured in a book, Tapping the Power of City Hall to Build Equitable Communities.
Nelson also is a member of the National Task Force for Immigration Reform.
The Public Safety and Crime Prevention Steering Committee on which Nelson serves discussed Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and homeland security policies.
