Chase away the last chill of winter by refurbishing the yard with gardening finds, bargains and even free plants from the fourth annual Bloomin Burien Plant Sale.
The sale on the sidewalks of Olde Burien runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14.
Look for in-store specials plus an abundance of garden merchandise from retailers marketing their wares outdoors along Southwest 152nd Street between Ambaum Boulevard Southwest and 10th Avenue Southwest.
New this year, sale co-sponsor Prudential Northwest Realty will give away starter plants to event attendees.
Herr Backyard Garden Center will sell herbs, and Grassroots Home and Garden will feature organic vegetable starts from Rent's Due Ranch, plus organic fertilizers and soil amendments.
Grassroots' new owner, Tina Larson, said she will also highlight the uncommon "species rhododendrons"-the stock from which today's hybrid rhododendrons were bred.
Larson, a professional gardener and garden designer for almost 15 years, will answer gardening questions of all varieties during the event.
"Come and chat me up," Larson said. "I don't want people to feel intimidated to ask questions."
The sale is also a good time to check out Grassroots, another event co-sponsor. Larson has a "strong focus on organic gardening and helping people find their way through the organic maze."
Grassroots carries plants from the familiar to the unusual, all of the supplies and tools a gardener could need, and gift items.
Shoppers will find garden-merchandise bargains at Discover Burien Association tables, according to Debra George, who is coordinating the event for Discover Burien.
