Dear Public Servants at the City of Seattle,
Do not remove any parking whatsoever if and when constructing bicycle lanes with our money.
I repeat, do not remove any parking whatsoever if and when constructing bicycle paths with our money.
Also, do not reduce roadway space whatsoever for cars if and when constructing bicycle lanes.
Wide auto lanes translate into safer bicycling, as drivers are then able to give wide berth to bicyclists. This is particularly true concerning center turn lanes that are now present along California Avenue. Center "turn" lanes allow cars to move into the "turn" lane region and navigate around bicyclists riding along the roadside.
Do not dare eliminate the center turn lane in any area. In fact, I demand the city of Seattle construct turn lanes on Roxbury Street and 35th Avenue. It is a well known fact that automobiles halted for left-hand, cross-traffic turns are a major source of both automobile and bicycle accidents. We need center turn lanes to make all vehicle travel safer.
Remove some parking strip or sidewalk width if necessary, but construct center turn lanes along Roxbury Street, 35th and Fauntleroy Way and watch how much safer both motoring and bicycling becomes in West Seattle. Do not remove or reduce parking in any case.
