The Rams were blanked on four hits in the Saturday, May 12 game, but still advanced to the regional level of the state tournament. That kept alive Mount Rainier's hopes of making this Friday and Saturday's state semifinals and finals at Safeco Field in Seattle.

Brendan Gardner-Young hit 4-for-4 with a double in the Saturday, May 12 playoffs as Daniel Dutton hit 3-for-4 and Ryan Brett 2-for-2.

David Macey hit 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in the Saturday, May 12 win.

Karli Merlich threw a one-hit shutout for Kennedy in its SPSL 3A/Seamount Tournament win Saturday, May 12. Merlich struck out nine.
Ashley Davis hit a double and drove in two runs.
Kennedy 2, Enumclaw 1
Kennedy battled the Hornets all the way into the ninth inning of the Saturday, May 12 championship game. Merlich threw all nine innings and struck out 16, and she also hit 2-for-3 with a double.

Kelly McDonald hit 3-for-3 and scored one run in the Saturday, May 12 playoff win. Kelly Parsons hit 2-for-3 with a home run and one RBI.

Mount Rainier emerged victorious over cross-Highline School District rival Evergreen Saturday, May 12.
Boys track
Seamount meet
Highline took third as a team in the Friday, May 11 action at Renton Stadium, scoring 92.5 points behind the 138 of Renton and the 103.5 of Hazen. Kennedy scored 23.5 points for fifth place, just ahead of Evergreen (61), Mount Rainier (60) and Tyee (3).
Kyle Ehlers of Mount Rainier won the triple jump at 44-0 1/2 and teammate David Lopez placed second in the shot put at 48-5 1/2 ahead of Highline's Nathan McPeek at 47-5. Vincente Cordova of Evergreen was second in the triple jump (43-1) with teammate Kirt Terry third at 42-9 1/2. Highline's Sean Sullivan placed third in the pole vault at 12-3 and Clayton Hendrix of Kennedy won the 110 hurdles in 15.91 followed by Charles Webster of Evergreen in 16.43.
D'Mario Carter of JFK took first in the 300 hurdles in 41.85 and Highline's Marlon Murray won the 100-meter dash in 10.88 ahead of Mount Rainier's Dionte Cadogan (11.26) and Highline's Brian Watkins (11.35. Murray also won the 200 in 21.46.
J.J. Croteu of JFK was second in the 400 in 51.05 and Highline's Erik Desilva was second in the 800 in 2:02.41. Ryan Prentice of Mount Rainier won the 3,200 in 9:36.79 and Evergreen placed third in the 400 relay in 44.65. Highline placed second in the 1,600 relay in 3:33.3.
Nisqually 2A
Foster won the Nisqually 2A championship Saturday, May 12 with 181 points ahead of Fife's 167, and the Bulldogs also took third in the boys finals with 83 being Fife's 250 and the 161 score of Steilacoom. Trent Bell won the 400-meter run in 52.36 seconds and teammate Abdi Guiire took the 3,200 in 9:59.7. Foster also won the 400-meter relay in 45.01 and took the 1,600 relay in 3:37.86.

Seamount League
JFK came in second in the Friday, May 11 competition with 116 points behind the 160 1/2 of Renton. Highline was fifth with a 91 1/2 score ahead of Mount Rainier (49 1/2), Evergreen (17) and Tyee (3).
Siri Berg of Highline took second in the high jump at 4-10 and teammate Sally Phnouk won the triple jump at 33-6. Chanel Lewis won the 100 hurdles in 16.59 just ahead of Kennedy teammate Laniece Luster (16.69). Luster won the 300 hurdles in 48.27 and Highline teammate Berg was third in 49.37.
Kelly Mason of Highline took first in the 100-meter dash in 12.62 and teammate Whitney Wagner was second in the 200 in 26.33 ahead of Mason (26.46). Alison Vrbanac of Mount Rainier took second in the 800 in 2:28.54 and she was also third in the 1,600 in 5:37.17.
Highline placed second in the 400-meter relay in 51.34 and Kennedy was third in 52.73. Kennedy was second in the 800 relay in 1:50.23 and
Kennedy and Mount Rainier both advanced into this past weekend's district tournament (after press time).

Lanaya Daniels of Foster won the girls shot put with a 36-8 1/2 effort.

Mount Rainier received a shutout from David Lugo in the Saturday, May 12 West Central District playoff win. Tucker Rockwell scored the only goal the Rams needed in the 60th minute on a Derek Coburn assist.
Highline 5, Lakes 1
Evan Richter scored the Pirates' opening goal in the first minute of play on an Armin Okanovic assist in the Saturday, May 12 district playoff. Richter struck again in the 11th minute on a Jesus Cervantes assist and Cervantes scored in the 20th minute on a Marshall Kosaka assist. Andres Suazo-Ramirez scored unassisted in the 37th minute and Richter scored unassisted in the 39th.
Kennedy 4, Peninsula 1
Kennedy also won in a high-scoring district playoff match Saturday, May 12.
Vince McCluskey put the Lancers on the scoreboard with a goal off a Ryan Monson assist in the 15th minute and McCluskey struck again in the 52nd minute on a double assist from Josh Ambrozic and Rudi Muschett. Monson scored in the 55th minute on a Colin Moy assist and Tony Armitage struck on a Monson assist in the 61st minute.
Mt. Rainier 2, Ferndale 0
Mount Rainier finished off Ferndale to earn its way into the state 3A quarterfinals.
David Lugo earned the shutout on goal for the Rams, with Tucker Rockwell scoring the first goal in the 32nd minute on a Brad Bodle assist.
Abshir Ali then scored on a Rockwell assist in the 39th minute.
Shorecrest 5, Highline 1
Highline's season ended with the Tuesday, May 15 state-opening loss.
Armin Okanovic scored the only goal for the Pirates in the 39th minute on an unassisted play.
Sammamish 2, Kennedy 1
Kennedy was also stopped short in its efforts to get past the first round at state.
Skylar St. Yves scored the Lancers' goal on a Ryan Monson assist in the 75th minute.
Coed tennis
Seamount Tournament
Area athletes stood out in the action at McKnight Middle School in Renton that concluded Saturday, May 12.
Kennedy won the boys title with 26.5 points. Evergreen was third with 10, Mount Rainier fourth with 7.5, Highline fifth with seven and Tyee seventh with four.
On the girls side, Highline won with 25 points with Evergreen second (18), Mount Rainier fourth (12.5), Kennedy fifth (7.5) and Tyee eighth (0).
JFK's Bryan Thorp took the boys singles championship by a 6-1, 6-1 score over Hazen's Mike Riley, and JFK's Connor Thorp won the match for third and fourth over Trevor Thompson of Mount Rainier, 6-3, 6-1. Evergreen's Bryan Nguyen lost the fifth/sixth battle, 6-0, 6-4.
Jane Connelly of Highline won the girls championship, 6-3, 6-2, over Melissa Nguyen of Hazen and Evergreen's Tammy Do defeated Eva Ghirmai of Highline, 6-2, 6-1, in the third/fourth match. Thearry Deap of Evergreen won the fifth/sixth match be default over Robin Senirajjangkul of Highline.
Jason Lim and Frazier Chan of Kennedy won the boys doubles title, 6-1, 6-1, and Andy To and Daniel Nguyen of Evergreen took the third/fourth match, 6-1, default. John Vu and Jeff Nguyen of Evergreen won the fifth/sixth match, 6-4, 6-3.
Maddie Guidos and Jennifer Cheadle of Highline topped Evergreen's Vi Nguyen and Keilah Fanene in the girls doubles final, 6-4, 7-5. Lorrin Rondeau and Carly Boyden of Mount Rainier won the third/fourth match, 6-4, 6-2. Jessica Morley and Felicia Doubek of JFK won the fifth-sixth match, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
Kyle Andrews and Carly Henley of Highline won the mixed doubles championship match by a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 score over Evergreen's Jason Granstand and Monica Seth. Joey Corigliano and Kelsey Farnam of Kennedy took the third/fourth match, 6-2, default.
Girls tennis
West Central 3A
Jane Connelly of Highline stormed her way into the West Central 3A District semifinals by winning her first two matches in the tournament Thursday.
Connelly opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win before taking her quarterfinal match over Lisa Kromholtz of Peninsula, 6-2, 6-4. The semifinals were played after press time Saturday.
Tammy Do of Evergreen lost her first singles match, 6-2, 6-0, and Eva Ghirmai of Mount Rainier lost her first singles match, 6-1, 6-3.
The Mount Rainier doubles team of Rondeau and Boyden lost, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, in the opening round and Cheadle and Guidos of Highline lost, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2, and the Evergreen team of Fanene and Nguyen lost, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Girls golf
1A Bi-District
Elizabeth Keith of Seattle Christian captured first place in the Tuesday, May 15 tournament with a round of 95 over 18 holes, ahead of the 102 score of Charles Wright's Kelsie Atz.
Alexandra Keith of SCS tied for third place with a round of 103 and teammate Kristen Yap took third with a round of 108.
Boys golf
1A Bi-District
Seattle Christian's Cory Peterson finished in a tie for fifth at the Tuesday, May 15 boys tournament with a round of 80.
