The City Council voted to spend/provide $ 8.1 million for a proposal for a "no build" alternative for the Alaskan Way viaduct. This plan does not commit the city to endorse such a plan.
Because the viaduct is a state highway, state officials will have considerable and final option as to how to replace the highway. The state is in the process of spending $900-plus million at this time to retrofit the existing structure only to tear it down in two years.
The city, our civic leaders, are willing to spend this exorbitant amount of tax money just to prevent replacing the existent viaduct with a new more streamline efficient structure. Sounds like a no brainer to me, but what else is new?
What is wrong with this picture? Enough is enough! We can't keep throwing money away on issues hoping they will go away. There is only one viable solution for SR99 and that is an elevated structure, so wake up Seattle and stop this liberal nonsense, and learn how to say no.
