Suzanne Smith announced her intent to run for a seat on the FWPS board.
I hope to bring new ideas, a new point of view, and my interest and excitement about education to the Federal Way School Board. As a parent of two children, I have followed very closely the changes and challenges facing schools and our school district.
I have regularly attended School Board meetings and board work study meetings since 2001and keep myself informed on the educational issues facing our students and district, especially the current budgetary problems.
Since 1995, I have volunteered in the classroom, served on my elementary school Leadership Team (Star Lake), and served as a PTA officer at Star Lake and Federal Way PTSA Council. I volunteered at Star Lake Elementary and served on PTA committees at both Star Lake and FWPA.
I have served on the Federal Way School District Community Advisory Council, principal and staff selection teams, a boundary committee, elementary science curriculum selection committee, as well as the Fiscal Advisory Committee since 2003.
I am a 2005 graduate of the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce Advancing Leadership Program, and I am currently serving on the City of Federal Way's Diversity Commission holding the office of vice-chair. Since March of 2004, I have been treasurer of Citizens for Federal Way Schools. I served as chairwoman of the successful CFFWS Bond campaign for the May 2007 Federal Way School District $149 Million dollar bond measure.
I believe that volunteering in our community is vital, and I look forward to this opportunity to expand my ability to serve my community.
