Stars come out in Seamount League

This year's all-Seamount League teams are chock full of Highline Times/Des Moines News talent.
It starts right at the top in Seamount League fastpitch, where Karli Merlich of Kennedy was named as the Most Valuable Player and Lancers coach Dino Josie was named as the Coach of the Year.
Merlich, a junior, also made the Seamount League first team as a pitcher along with Lisa Anderson of Evergreen.
JFK's Deavonnie (Dew) Spadoni was selected to the first team as a senior catcher along with teammate Brittany Montgomery.
Highline's Randi Dry was named as a senior shortstop and Evergreen senior Shanna Shepard was selected as a third baseman.
First team outfield positions went to senior Kelsey Decker of Highline, Maggie Whaley of JFK and Brittany Copenhaver of Mount Rainier. Junior Marie-Faye Shaffer of Tyee was selected as the first team utility player.
Named as second team outfielders were Evergreen senior Holly Johnson, Evergreen junior Sabrina Hunter and Highline junior Kayla Carlile.
Ashley Messmer of Mount Rainier was named second team utility as a junior, and sophomore teammate Kelsey McDonald was named as a pitcher. Kelly Parsons of the Rams was chosen as a catcher as a senior and JFK junior Peggy Mathison is a second team shortstop along with Mount Rainier junior Sarah Martinez.
Honorable mention choices included Shelby Klein and Shalice West of Evergreen, Highline's Krista Childs, Samantha Erben, Brittany Powell and Rachel Reynolds and Mount Rainier's Christy Loftus. Selected from Kennedy were Jessica Lewis, Amanda Clark and Ashley Davis and the Tyee choices were Jenna Ladenberg and Nicole Wright.
Nisqually League
Foster earned the team sportsmanship award this year and also had Judy Johnson chosen as a junior outfielder and Lote Faalelea as an honorable mention player.
All Seamount all-star team decisions were made by the specific sport's coaches or players, or both.
Boys soccer
Kennedy senior Chris Blais earned his way onto the Seamount League first team as a goalkeeper and Tyee's Ahmed Ali was selected as a forward.
Highline's Armin Okanovic was picked as a senior and Tucker Rockwell of Mount Rainier was chosen as a sophomore forward.
Jarrett Thomas of Mount Rainier was a senior picked at midfield/forward and sophomore teammate Dalton Rockwell was picked as a midfielder. Also selected to the first team at midfield were Highline junior Evan Richter, Highline junior Marshall Kosaka and JFK junior Tony Armitage.
Michael Sereke of Tyee was named to the first team at defender and Brad Bodle of Mount Rainier was picked at defender.
Chosen to the second team at goalkeeper were Tyee's Hassan Hassan, Highline's Billy Lemmon and Mount Rainier's David Lugo. Second team forward selection went to Mount Rainier's Abshir Ali, Joe Arguello of Tyee and Jesus Cervantes of Highline.
Midfield picks went to Moises Rivera of Evergreen, Josh LaRoche of Evergreen and Alex Schisel of Highline.
Defensive players receiving second team honors included Guillermo Palomera, Christian Nichols of JFK, Travis Bull of JFK, Joe Ramierez of Tyee, Andres Suazo-Ramirez of Highline and A.J. Nitzel of Mount Rainier.
Evergreen honorable mention picks included Alan Soto, Isreal Ruiz, Terry Long, Erik Gonzales, Fabian Valencia-Mandoza and Nicolas Soto.
Frank Martinez, Shuaib Ahmed and Philip Lojuran were chosen from Tyee and Jose Lomeli, Nick Reynolds and Nathan Fletcher were all named from Highline. Mount Rainier honorable metion went to Chris Chu, Jeff Hudson and Blaise Smith.
Nisqually League
Named to the Nisqually League 2A all-star first team were senior forward Kamal Matan, senior midfielder Sheiknour Farah, midfielder Chris Tomoson and senior defender Dino Saracevik.
The second team included midfielder Dejan Lucik, midfielder Mohamed Islaw, sophomore defender Isaiah Jones and junior defender Ruslan Gulaliev.
Baseball
Highline's Brendan Gardner-Young and teammate David Wagner were selected as co-Most Valuable Players, with Gardner-Young making the first team as a pitcher/outfielder and Wagner as a first baseman.
Other first team picks included Mount Rainier pitcher/outfielder Kyle Baskett, Evergreen pitcher Peter Santie, Highline second baseman Lee Carson, Evergreen outfielder Tobias Togi and Highline utility player Daniel Dutton.
The second team included Mount Rainier pitcher J.T. Wattenberg and Evergreen pitcher Walter Johnson.
