Leaders and Achievers(tm) Scholarship Program recognizes high school seniors with a grant from The Comcast
Three Federal Way area students have been recognized as Comcast Leaders and Achievers(tm) with a $1,000 grant from The Comcast Foundation for outstanding commitment to community service and academic accomplishments.
The winners are:
Amanda Stewart, Decatur H.S., plans to attend Washington State University
Karlo Leonar, Todd Beamer H.S., undecided
Lena Park, Bellarmine Preparatory School, plans to attend Boston College
Each student was awarded the scholarship based on demonstration of leadership and service.
Stewart was involved with DECA, varsity track and field, and Associated Study Body (ASB).
She also volunteered at Silver Lake Elementary and Decatur H.S. Youth Basketball Camp.
Leonar was part of his school's Student Union Board and Student Council, Events and Activities Committee, and Speech and Debate Team. He was also involved with the State Farm Insurance National Youth Advisory Board, Advancing Youth Leadership Program (Federal Way Chamber of Commerce), and Habitat for Humanity.
Park was part of varsity fast pitch, St. Vincent De Paul Parish Mission Trek, and Faith in Formation. She volunteered at Sunshine Physically Challenged Camp and coached little league baseball.
The Leaders and Achievers(tm) Scholarship Program, funded through The Comcast Foundation, recognizes high school seniors for exemplary community service, leadership skills, positive attitude, and academic achievement.
In 2006, the program granted over $1.7 million dollars, recognizing over 7,500 students attending high schools in Comcast communities across the country.
Since its inception in 2001, the program has awarded more than $7.5 million dollars in scholarships to high school seniors.
